CarbIP Life Project Newsletter – Issue 3 January 2024
Welcome to the third edition of the CarbIP Life Project Newsletter!
We are thrilled to share some exciting updates with you. Our project has reached a significant milestone with the relocation to our new Demo plant in Genk. This move will enable us to upscale the production of aerogel-incorporated fiber battings using the sourced fiber material as well as polystyrene composites.
New Demo Plant in Genk
The new facility in Genk will allow enough space to scale and build a production demo line dedicated to producing aerogel-incorporated fibers and polystyrene. The upscaling will be done in steps and further optimized to a continuous process, eventually achieving a production scale of 30-70 m³ per day by the end of this project. We are also assessing the thermal conductivity and quality consistency of the resulting materials during upscaling to ensure they meet our ambitious standards.
Engineering designs for a larger production line and optimizing the individual production steps
Good designs are crucial not only to ensure enough production capacity, but also to minimize energy requirements to remain as sustainable as possible. Preventing waste and energy losses by recovery units, significant positive impacts in the environment can be realized.
Next Steps
Our upcoming focus areas include:
- Building a larger production line in order to have sufficient amounts of material later in the project.
- Potential Suppliers: We will identify potential suppliers for the tests required.
- Digital Tool Architecture: We will explore the architecture of the digital tool needed at the end of the project.
We are committed to advancing our project and look forward to sharing more updates with you in the future. Thank you for your continued support and interest in our work.
Best regards,
