Sam CHARTOUNI, CEO Aerobel, bachelor’s degree in Idea & Innovation Management

Sam Chartouni is the founder and CEO of Aerobel. He is a young, driven entrepreneur with a bachelor’s degree in Idea & Innovation Management. He started as a consultant in operational and innovation management for various construction companies. Subsequently, Sam moved on to the distribution industry where he was the exclusive distributor for insulation products and studied all technical and chemical aspects of insulation products. By being present in the same sector as Ludovic Molenaers, a collaboration has arisen that has led to the development of a new high-tech insulation product, i.e. the best insulating EPS cement-bonded floor insulation in the world (soon on the EPBD list, the European directive on the energy performance of buildings).

Steve DE POOTER, Head of Research at Aerobel, PhD Engineering Sciences

Steve De Pooter is Head of Research at Aerobel. During his PhD in Engineering Sciences (KULeuven, 2016-2020) he investigated the sustainable synthesis of hydrophobic silica aerogel particles and their mixing in water-based slurries. During the last 6 months of his PhD, he developed an aerogel catalyst to convert methane gas to CO2 at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (US), in collaboration with Aerogel Technologies. Steve has a thorough knowledge of the different production steps and process parameters related to aerogel production. He also has experience in various characterization techniques such as pycnometry, scanning electron microscopy, laser diffraction, heat flow meter, etc.

Diana Buzlea, Precast Innovation Project Manager ICSC, EMAT, CRH

Diana Buzlea was selected to be part of CarbIP project due to her experience as a project manager with Leviat, a CRH company, in which she managed various scale projects to completion. In her current position, she is responsible for the European Precast Innovation projects within ICSC- CRH. Her background in architecture and her interest in innovation and sustainability inspired her to join this team.

Hans MOSTMANS, Innovation Engineer CRH SCB, Structural Engineer

Hans Mostmans is Innovation Engineer and has more than 20 years of experience as a structural engineer with a wide variety of construction materials (concrete, steel and plastic composites). He is responsible for the innovation program of CRH Structural Concrete in Belgium. He was project-leader of several national programs in Belgium related to alternative binder development and the development and application of composite structures. He was involved in the development of the patented CRH IDW walling system.
